Why Our Community Invested In Mamamade

At Mamamade, our community is at the core of everything we do. Every recipe or learning resource we develop is made with one mission in mind: to create healthier choices and offer support for busy modern families. Over the past two years, we've gathered a community of 70,000 parents, grandparents and carers who share this vision.

When we launched our crowdfund campaign, we were overwhelmed by the number of you who took the next step towards helping us on our journey and invested in Mamamade. As always, we were keen to hear more from you - so we caught up with Alexandra and Sara, two of our community investors, about what drew them to Mamamade as a brand, support system, and investment.

What brought you to Mamamade?

I was excited to start weaning my son, Jared. He is my first born but having previously worked for a start-up baby food company that believed in doing things differently in the industry, I had learnt so much and didn’t have a lot of the initial worries that I found my friends were experiencing. We took the baby-led approach and Jared enjoyed almost everything from the beginning. I was over the moon with this as he started to gain weight well after a tricky breastfeeding journey.

However, at around 9 months I was fast running out of ideas for ongoing variety and there was also the problem of time – planning meals, shopping lists, making the meals (and making them quickly before hangry Jared made an appearance!); it became a bit overwhelming, alongside trying to run a household and find a moment to myself in the day. So, when I came across Mamamade on Instagram (thank you targeted post!) I decided to give it a try.

Jared took to the meals well; even though he is just about to turn 1, he already finishes the toddler meals most of the time. We are on our 3rd box now and currently I don’t see why we would stop at this stage. We are using the meals mainly for quick and easy dinners because we are usually out and about in the day, so when we get home, I want something quick and easy. That said, I like knowing Jared is having a good balanced meal before bed, that he clearly enjoys! It is also great that he is eating things that my partner and I don’t usually eat (lentils, mushrooms for example) so hopefully we are helping to develop his palate and create a future foodie.

What do you love most about Mamamade and our potential?

The flexibility of the subscription service, the quality of the meals and variety of meals (especially the new toddler meals) are the most important things to me. It will be key to continue to innovate in flavours/meals to ensure parents keep coming back. Getting your child to eat is such a worry for a lot of parents and while I didn’t have that specific problem with Jared, I have seen how it has played out with friends and their children. When they have found something their child eats, they are so happy that they would do almost anything to help that continue. With this in mind, giving parents the flexibility to choose the meals in their box is incredibly important as there is nothing worse than receiving a box of meals knowing only half will get eaten for example! There is also a great opportunity/potential I think to build on the coaching service you offer for new parents in providing evidenced based resources/advice to help them on what can be an incredibly tough journey.

What made you invest in Mamamade as a business?

I very much invested in Mamamade from a “mum” point of view as opposed to how I have previously invested in other start-ups/small businesses because you solve a genuine problem that I face almost every day. From previously working in the baby food industry, I have a good idea of what’s available on the market and to this day, prior to finding Mamamade, I had still not found something that ticked all my boxes.

While I make most meals for Jared, sometimes I just need something quickly and I don’t want to feel guilty about it; I don’t want to feel that I’ve compromised on his health/nutrition because I don’t have enough time to make something from scratch. When I started using Mamamade, I thought “this is genuinely a brilliant idea” that solves a real problem for parents. Your values matched mine and I think a lot of mums and dads are in my position, so I feel it has incredible potential.

In terms of pricing, it initially felt expensive (£60 is a large outlay for a lot of people especially in the current climate) but when you break it down by meal, at £2.50, for me it feels like great value because of everything I mentioned in my answer to your first question. You have some great backers and being female founded, I am even more excited to see it go from strength to strength!

Have you ever invested through Seedrs or in other businesses?

Mamamade is the third business I have invested in (the second through Seedrs).

What brought you to Mamamade?

I’ve heard about Mamamade from a few friends previously saying how good the products are. My son is allergic to egg and knowing there’s a brand like Mamamade is very reassuring for parents of babies with allergies - not having to worry and spend a lot of time looking at the ingredients list of everything. I have been following the brand for nearly a year now.

What do you love most about Mamamade and our potential?

I love that Mamamade is always thriving. I’ve seen multiple releases as well as improved recipes on site. This just shows to any consumer how much you actually care and that you’re always eager to do more and create more which is very refreshing.

What made you invest in Mamamade as a business?

Right now I am a stay at home mum and have always been interested in investing in companies but wasn’t sure how to go about it. I stumbled upon your story in Instagram mentioning that you are crowdfunding soon and how simple it is. Once I created an account it was so easy to invest. I believe in Mamamade and truly believe the only way is up with Mamamade.

Have you ever invested through Seedrs or in other businesses?

No, seeing Mamamade’s story is what made me take the leap into investing as you are a brand I believe in and would like to see it expand.

Thank you so much for answers and your continued support, Alexandra and Sara! We’re so thrilled to have you on board.
